Character Name:
Edwin Amell
Age:
20
Sex:
Male
Race:
Human
Class:
Mage
Specializations:
Blood Mage, Battlemage
Favored skills:
Blood Wound, Draining Aura
Hobbies:
Before his running away from the Circle, Edwin was fond of reading history books and myths and legends of Thedas, but after his exile, he stopped reading books and dropped anything resembling a hobby for fear of Templars finding him from things he'd leave behind.
Background:
A child of the Free Marches noble Amell family, but born in Fereldan. Edwin was taken at an early age to the Circle Tower on Lake Calenhad and raised there, without knowing of his noble heritage. Not like it mattered anyway, as mages were unable to inherit land or titles. Edwin took to training in the Tower very seriously, but also stood up for his best friend Jowan at every opportunity. Jowan was bullied by Templars often, and didn't have the greatest command of magic in the world either, which prompted protective feelings from Edwin. Eventually, it was Edwin's turn for the Harrowing so that he would be raised up from his Apprentice rank. Upon completing it, after a strange encounter in the Fade with a Pride demon masquerading as a dead apprentice, Edwin learned of something unspeakable...Jowan fell in love! With a Chantry sister! This horrified Edwin as it went against everything he was taught, but Jowan was his best friend, so he decided to help the two escape the Tower.
The trio infiltrated the Tower's repository to find Jowan's phylactery, successfully destroying it and Jowan was free. Unfortunately, Edwin's phylactery was not among those stored there. After leaving the repository, the trio were beset upon by Templars, and the First Enchanter himself. In a panic, Jowan revealed himself to be a blood mage, and cut down everyone around them, but his horrified girlfriend abandoned him for his evil of using blood magic. In despair, Jowan fled, Edwin in tow. He knew blood magic was evil, but there was no other choice but to follow Jowan then. The two swam across Lake Calenhad, and escaped the Templars, but the victory was temporary. Once the Battle of Ostagar occurred, Edwin and Jowan heard news of Teyrn Loghain Mac Tir heroically saving his troops from the slaughter, orchestrated by Grey Wardens.
Edwin was glad the Teyrn made it out, but was saddened by King Cailan's demise. It was a week after Ostagar that Jowan and Edwin came across Teyrn Loghain's troops, and offered their services. Loghain gave Jowan a mission, and Edwin never saw him again, but kept Edwin around as extra muscle. However, this also brought Edwin very close to Templars, he could always feel their eyes on him and it made him uncomfortable. Six months later, Loghain became more and more paranoid as rumors of a small group of Grey Wardens survived Ostagar and were damaging his plans elsewhere, that he started to turn on those around him. Edwin was one of those people, Loghain had sent Templars after the mage, claiming him to be a maleficar. They attacked Edwin in the middle of the night, and Edwin retaliated, killing the Templars and, feeling betrayed by someone he idolized as a hero, fled into the Bannorn. The Templars never stopped hunting him, and eventually Edwin gave in to temptation, entering a partnership with a Lust demon, allowing her to grant him blood magic powers. With his new skills, he learned various creative ways to mask his presence from Templars, as well as boiling the blood of those he deemed threats.
Still on the run, Edwin searches for sanctuary.
Personality:
Edwin had grown cautious over the past year, and distrustful of others ever since learning that Loghain was in fact, the kingslayer and not the Grey Wardens. Normally, he is reserved and quiet, with occasional bouts of a biting, caustic wit. He opened his mind and body to a Lust demon, and so, knows full well what he did was wrong, but he prioritizes his own survival over morals.
Weapons/Armor:
Edwin wears simple robes, as most mages do. Occasionally he would wear something in the fashion of Free Marches mages.
Appearance: Edwin has the marks of an Amell, sporting a head of brown-black hair, and grey-blue eys, with a sturdy build for one who spent the past year on the run. His robes tend to be plain, with few embellishments. Aside from that, he is relatively plain looking, which is granted by his blood magic, helping him blend in by making others see a completely forgettable face. His true appearance is the same for hair and eye color, but he is handsome, though the hard living has taken its toll on him, his eyes have bags under them from the lack of sleep, and he slouches from the constant strain.
