10 months before Ostagar
5am. Denerim. Grey Warden's quarters.
The Dalish was one with her surroundings. Eyes closed, sitting on the ground, feeling the soil beneath her feet, the air around her, the trees, the flowers, the birds, even the muffled sounds the gardeners made, working on the other side of the garden. She breathed deeply, allowing her mind go completely blank, trying to remain calm, trying to forget her last nightmare. Her long white locks were loose, moving slightly with the early morning breeze while she stayed there for what seemed like hours.
Minutes, in reality.
A gentle cough made her sigh.
- I know you're here. What is it?
Bowen shifted uncomfortably his weight from one foot to another, trying not to scratch the bandage on his arm. He had been bed ridden for a good part of the last month, after one particularly hard skirmish with a large band of darkspawn in the Brecilian Forest. In that battle they had been victorious, as always. They had paid a great price, as always.
- Duncan sent message. He'll be arriving tonight after dusk. It seems he found a new potential recruit and wants us to prepare things. You know, a room, and...
Calliara only nodded, and stood up with a swift, almost languid movement.
- A room. A late meal. A bath too. And clothes. Do we know if is a he or a she?
- His message said you were the one to prepare it, so I guess is a she.
The Dalish sighed again. Sometimes being the only woman among a bunch of grown up kids was tiring. Specially when all of them sans two were shameless shemlen.
- It'll be nice to have another female here but I'm not happy for her.
Bowen shrugged his enormous shoulders, and almost winced from the pain. He'd been badly injured a month ago, and he shouldn't be up yet, but he was tired of being still and bored. His leg had almost healed too and he could walk, even with a bit of a limp, and his side still hurt (specially when he laughed) but he would live.
- Me neither, specially when she meets Lorenzo
Calliara rolled her eyes.
- Not if I can help it. That lecherous ass won't get near any recruit, or else... - she looked around, almost sad to go, and then eyed the big Nevarran suspiciously - Shouldn't you be in bed? Kieran is going to kill you if he catches you here.
- I... was on my way for breakfast, and...
- Bowen Pentaghast!
- Oh, Maker - Bowen sighed, and rushed to the inside of the quarters, opposite from where the voice was coming - Don't tell him I was here!
Calliara hid a giggle, but decided to scoot before being questioned, and start with the preparations for the new arrival.
