I guess it only seemed right to get some kind of discussion started over on this board! The new lore posts are fantastic, and sure to be a huge help for keeping on track with the rest of the RP. As for figuring out where to go from here (or rather, where to restart from), I thought it might be nice to set this thread up. What ideas do we want to keep? What could be better fleshed out? What should be entirely re-done?
I suppose the idea of this board is so that, at least aside from the private plots that we might discuss with Calli, major ideas can be shared and debated on everyone's own time and out in the open.
Some good points, I think, to start out with:
How much of DA:O, DA:2, and the upcoming DA:I should we incorporate? Should the lives of Hawke and/or even the Inquisitor wind their way into our Wardens' path?
For characters/OCs who only became Grey Wardens during the course of the original RP, should we restart with them as their pre-Warden selves, or should they keep their Warden status?
How should we approach relationships, friendships, alliances, etc that were built up in the last RP? Tear them down and start anew, or begin with them as pre-established facts?
I assume we're keeping the "Nygozy as Archdemon-killing Warden (aka THE Warden)" — are there any other post-game changes that we should take into account for characters?
And of course, any other thoughts, thought-provoking questions, and ideas are welcome (nay, demanded!).
Aha ! Thanks for starting this thread, it might be needed indeed. I'm afraid the only ideas I have to submit right now concern the global state of the universe in which we want to play.
If we want some room for storymaking, skull-bashing, and character developing, it seems to me quite logical to start from where DA:O left us. But the problem is what to make of Awakening, which takes place at this very moment and with the very same Hero : playing the events of Awakening would force us into a predetermined series of lore-compliant quests that will make creativity difficult to sustain, but ignoring it sets us on a direct course of non-canonery. I’m personally far from opposed to this, as I always say “canons are for shooting, not for playing,” but then again that’s my opinion.
So here are two options I can think of:
Either we start off right from the end of DA:O and decide to skip/ignore the Awakening story arc : that way we get the arrival into Vigil’s Keep, and more importantly we take up at a point where there is still a substantial amount of Darkspawn running around, the foreign agents provocateurs may still be present on Fereldan soil, and the poor state of everything is sure to give the Wardens a lot of job. On the other hand, we might have to redo much of the RP that had been settled on the previous forum. (I guess we could always make up shortcuts for the longer parts)
Or we can decide to start from the end of Awakening : the five or six-month delay with the end of DA:O gives a coherent background for integrating a lot of the previous RP : new Wardens, relationships, and others. The only “constraint” here would be that newly introduced character would have to account for not immediately going to the Hero after the end of the Blight. It’s not really a big deal, since we’re talking about a few months’ time. Ferelden would still be in reconstruction, but we would expect order to have returned to some extent at least outside of Amaranthine, and Vigil’s Keep would already be the Warden’s home although severely damaged by the siege.
As for the ulterior chapters of Dragon Age, I’m not sure what to make of them : most of it seems to take place at least a few years after the events of Origins (Inquisition starts in 9:40 and the siege of Kirkwall is set in 9:34), so if we take up from after DA:O we still have quite the RP-time until these events concern us. Now of course, we can still skip ahead a few years, the problem being how to account for it : even a single year is a lot of time spent together, so we’d have to think up entire backgrounds for how characters have interacted with each other for all that time, and how they came to evolve and develop within the Grey Wardens.
Okay I'm done reading Dragonage wiki for today, guess it's time for me to start being productive. ...I hate being productive

My vote would go for starting after Origins and starting the relationships anew, as we did. We are older and wiser (some of us lol) so I think it'll make for better stories and better writing. I think we could adapt Awakening and Witch Hunt, and maybe adapt some of Dragon Age II to our setting (i.e: Merrill and her obsession with the mirror, Anders and his shit, there are plenty of Chantries to blow up ugh spoilers in Ferelden), Varric (who should be in every damn game), ...
We know no shit about Inquisition and is so later in our setting that I see no point about it. And Awakning was so poor in all senses (boring as shit) that we can make it better and add many plots to it

Well, we could continue where we left off, sorta. It would just start us off at Vigil's Keep...but we'd have the new Wardens that undertook the Joining Ritual en route to Vigil's Keep, plus the Orlesian Warden that would have taken over had Nygozy died, aka my blood mage Wolfram Caron. So...I believe if what I looked up was correct...eleven Wardens survived in the the two Joining rituals that took place in the rp, some of whom belong to people who haven't returned with the new activity in the forum. That doesn't include the Canon Warden origins and others that joined in back story. I don't know how many that brings the number to.
Hmm...but the story did get distorted a bit. We had shape shifters a plenty, a wolf pack serving the wardens, the last immortal elf who bestowed powers upon some people, including a way for Wolfram to shift in and out of the Fade if he drank a vial of blood from each past archdemon, essentially making himself immortal. Wow, did it get a bit weird. Even though I still want to keep that last part true, I know I won't miss the constant fighting Wolfram had with Ostef and Rakot.
I'm all for it being post Origins, early Awakening, since in the old rp, that's where we ended up, essentially. Any of the events that could possibly pertain to Fereldan in DA:2 and DA:I only happen years away. The nearest DA:2 thing that would have affected the group was Anders fleeing Vigil's Keep for Kirkwall, and maybe the Expedition. And that's not even that likely.
But The Golems of Amgarrak and Witch Hunt could possibly happen. Golems of Amgarrak could be done by any of the Wardens, but not sure about Witch Hunt.
I think for the time being we should stick to Fereldan, unless we plan on moving the whole group from region to region.
uvu I don't have much of a leg to stand on when it comes to weighing in on whether or not we start over, since I was more of the inactive members (I'm so sorry!). I will say, however, that while I didn't post much, I read everything, and so if we start over from scratch, it will be a little sad to see all those great relationships be reset. Oh the other hand, it would also be fun to see how those relationships build up again (or in different ways, or even not at all!) not that we're all a little 'older and wiser' (though I think you were all fantastic to start with!).
I will say that I would be interested in seeing how this merry band reacted to the destruction of the Chantry and the ensuing Templar-Mage war, but I guess there's no reason we couldn't get up to that eventually, even if we start from scratch. I guess I'm so stoked for Inquisition that I have that on the mind.
In any case, I think I'm keeping Margaid. If we start anew, she'll be her old kookie self (somewhat); if we start later on, I could have fun making her a little more balanced. I would also likely make an entirely new character who would have no history with the band at all, no matter what point they start at.
While I can get behind both starting from scratch or continuing, I do agree with Calli's points that this is our opportunity to be a little more collected with our characters.

I don't see any reason for what the Chantry in Denerim can't blow up for nefarious reasons...
About traveling to other countries: we're supposed to be the Grey Wardens stationed in Ferelden... unless there's anythreat anywhere else where more Wardens are needed, our only chance to get to other places might be defined quests or something similar. Or... well, let's not forget there are still two Old Gods sleeping in the Deep Roads.
Maybe it doesn't have to be "either or", we can always find some middle ground : with a month or two of delay between the end of DA:O and the begining of our story, we could have the Wardens just entering Vigil's Keep, as well as the new Wardens having already come over from the four corners of Thedas. In the meantime we could discard some of the more over-the-top stuff that, while justified by the logic progression of the RP, would be difficult to maintain on a new forum (I'm keeping a thought for the future newcomers, may there be plenty) with half of the involved characters now gone.
It's true that it might a be a bit pointless to start over so many relationships, and go over all the bonding moments once again : a short head start from DA:O would allow us to take these for granted and take up from there, while moving on a new scenario.
Are we working this forum where each RPer has one account, through which they play all of their characters, as opposed to the last forum, where everyone made different accounts for each character they had?
Oh, okay! I had just been wondering~ You had said that we should title character bios something like "Margaid's Character XXX," so I wasn't sure if you had it in mind that everyone would have one account. uvu/
Personnaly I'd be in favor of keeping one central account from which all the characters are played : it makes it easier in my opinion to pm people when you want to ask something about a given rp, and that way people don't have to cycle between a duckton of accounts just to write/answer pm's and posts. And if you gotta punch someone in the face, at least they don't have a thousand accounts to hide behind. Also, optimal use of space and resources : I like it.
You can think different, of course, but then you'd be wrong.
